Topic 2 : ”The role of plant architecture in labor automation (tomatoes and roses)”

Abstract: The introduction of robots for harvest and maintenance work is limited by the heterogenous and sometimes complicating architecture of a plant. Fruit or flowers are on unpredictable positions and partly hidden by a leaf or a stem, making it time consuming to judge the quality or to harvest. For tomato and rose production new strategies to redesign the architecture of the plant have been developed and tested.

Topic 3: ” A climate control strategy based on stomata opening”

Abstract : The Dutch government supports the Kyoto treaty on climate change to reduce CO2 emission. Growers try to reduce their ventilation to maintain a higher CO2 level in their greenhouse and to reduce emission. To prevent overheating, mechanical cooling or high pressure misting systems are installed. A method to control these systems based on stomata opening will be presented.
